Junior Fire Academy
The VCFD Junior Fire Academy is an entirely free, intensive five-day camp designed for boys and girls ages 13 to 15 to experience what it’s like to be a firefighter—and learn more about fire safety careers. Space is limited to 30 first-time campers per Week.
The VCFD Junior Fire Academy is taught by VCFD firefighters and features hands-on activities and interactive learning sessions. These in-depth, invaluable sessions include:
- Fire department organization
- 911 dispatch
- Structure fire and brush fire suppression
- Rappel operations
- Basic first aid and hands-only CPR
- Tour a local fire station and VCFD’s aviation unit
Notice to Parents
Space is limited to the first 30 eligible applicants per session. All others will be placed on the Junior Fire Academy waitlist. Mandatory registration and liability waivers are required. Camp shirts and water will be provided. Sunscreen is encouraged. From Monday through Thursday, campers are asked to bring their own lunch. On Friday, a free BBQ lunch will be provided.
Dress Code
The camp dress code calls for comfortable clothes, meaning pants or jeans. Shorts, spaghetti straps, strapless, tube tops, baggy clothes, and open-toe shoes are not allowed.
