As a Fire Inspector with VCFD, you’ll ensure fire safety through tasks like permit processing, code enforcement, and inspections, while also supporting incident planning and logistics during in-county emergencies. Fire Inspector
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) year full-time paid experience as a fire inspector with a public agency OR
- One (1) year full-time paid experience in a related inspection field AND
- Completion of two (2) core classes from the Uniform Fire Technology/Science curricula OR
- Completion of the five (5) core classes from the Uniform Fire Technology/Science curricula
- Must possess a valid California Driver’s License
Hiring Process
Step 1: Online Application

Step 2: Training & Experience Evaluation
- Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will undergo a Training and Experience Evaluation (T&E), which evaluates your submitted application materials and supplemental questionnaire responses. Your training and experience will be assessed against factors identified for successful job performance, so make sure your application clearly highlights your relevant experience, specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities, and that all supplemental questions are completed with care and diligence.
Step 3: Oral Exam
- Applicants who pass the T&E will advance to a job-related oral exam, which evaluates the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for successful job performance. A score of seventy percent (70%) or higher is required to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
Step 4: Background Investigation
- A thorough pre-employment, post offer background investigation, which may include inquiry into past employment, education, criminal background information and driving record, is required for this position.
