Take the Smoke Alarm Challenge!

Fire Prevention employee holding a Smoke Alarm

Smoke alarms save lives. During Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 6-12, the Ventura County Fire Department is inviting you to take our Smoke Alarm Challenge by posting a video on social media with a creative way to test your smoke alarm.

Here’s how it works.
Come up with a creative way to test your smoke alarm. Your video needs to show whether the alarm worked or not and the catch phrase, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!”

Post the video on Twitter/X, Facebook or Instagram by Oct. 12, 2024, and tag us (@VCFD on Twitter/X, @venturacountyfire on Instagram or @Ventura County Fire Department on Facebook). Use the hashtag #itworks or #nobeep depending on whether your alarm worked or not.

Then, challenge someone else to make a video of their own.

Everyone from Ventura County who posts a video according to these directions and shows a working alarm will be entered into a drawing for one of 10 VIP experiences with some of our firefighters. Everyone from Ventura County who posts a video according to these directions and shows an alarm that doesn’t work will receive a discount code to help with the purchase of a new alarm and be entered into a drawing for one of 10 fire extinguishers.

You must be a resident of Ventura County to win one of the prizes, but everyone who participates will help ensure their alarm works if there’s a fire in their home or business.

Are you ready for the challenge?

We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
