Station 51
Fire Station 51 serves the El Rio area and is the headquarters for Division 2 and Battalion 5. Battalion 5 commands the Santa Clara Valley, El Rio, Port Hueneme and south coast areas. The station was originally built in 1954 off the Hwy. 101 freeway. For a while, in the 70s and 80s, Station 51 was co-located with Oxnard Fire Station 4, but moved back to its old quarters. In 2006, Station 51 was relocated to the River Park area. The new station is a combined station with a new Oxnard Fire Station 7. The facility is unique with two fire stations from two different agencies, built right next to each other on the same piece of property. In 2007 the firefighter position was upgraded to a Paramedic/Firefighter and Engine 51 became a Medic/Engine. In addition to the chief officers, Station 51 is staffed daily by three firefighters and houses Medic/Engine 51; Brush Engine 351 and Water Rescue OES Swiftwater 10. The battalion chief has a command vehicle (Battalion 5).
